Canon EOS R5 | King of All Cameras?

Updated: Feb 19

In early February Canon rumors ran wild with the suggested launch of a new Canon R5! A speculated wonder camera most notably with 8K Video recording, dual card slots and image stabilization. Check out that first article here

Most were left skeptical given that these specs would essentially be twice as good as current EOS R Specification. This would even be a considerable step up from the newly announced 1DX Mark 3.

As of this morning Canon has indeed confirmed the new R5 (https://www.canon.co.uk/cameras/eos-r5/). Leaving skeptics shocked.

Confirmed Specs

The following specs have been confirmed on Canons official website with more information being released periodically.

Image quality

8k video recording has indeed been confirmed, with still capturing at a phenomenal 20fps.

To Quote Canon

"New standards in high resolution stills and phenomenal 8K video quality to match. The EOS R5 advances image quality to a whole new level for stills and movies with a blistering 20fps electronic shutter or 12fps mechanically.

Image Stabilization

There is nothing we could use more at Clear than image stabilization. While the EOS R has an impressive image, we couldn't help but long for less shaky handheld shots. Smooth tack sharp shots here we come.

To Quote Canon

"For the first time on any Canon camera, In Body Image Stabilization is offered which works in harmony with Canon RF lenses with IS to provide the ultimate in shake-free super-sharp images and movies."

Dual Card Slot

Our single biggest qualm of the EOS R is the single SD card slot. Nothing can drive a wedding photographers paranoia like a single SD card holding priceless pictures from the entire day.

To Quote Canon

"For performance that matters, look under the skin. Dual Card Slots means much longer shooting time. And as the EOS R5 is part of the incredible EOS R family, with the stunning RF mount that offers the ultimate in quality and adaptability, it’s also compatible with Canon’s incredible EF lens range thanks to a choice of RF-EF adapters for seamless integration."
